Sri Lanka’s GDP to contract in 2Q 2020 and rebound in second half: CB

Sri Lanka is expecting a contraction of gross domestic product (GDP) in the second quarter of 2020 and a sharp rebound in the second half of the year, Chandranath Amarasekara, Director of Economic Research at the Central Bank said.

“We expect the economy to contract in the second quarter of the year and a sharp rebound in the second half of the year. In the first quarter, we are still expecting the GDP figures from the Department of Census and statistics,” Amarasekera told reporters today (09).


“We may revise the forecast after we observe the first-quarter data,” he added.
