Two unbeaten teams Sri Lanka under 19 and Bangladesh under 19 will meet in their last group match of the Asia Cup today) at Dubai International cricket Stadium, commencing at 10.30a.m.
Sri Lanka under 19 team led by all rounder Vihas Thewmika is full of confidence after recording back to back victories over Nepal and Afghanistan and their all round capabilities enabled them to beat both Nepalians and Afghans comfortably. The first game against Nepal Sri Lanka notched up 55 runs victory and had it easy to beat Afghanistan by 131 runs in their last game and both matches were played at Sharjah Stadium while the Bangladesh match will be played at Dubai International stadium where Bangladesh played both winning games against Afghanistan (45 runs win) and Nepal (by 5 wickets) and they will play at Dubai once again .
Infact Sri Lankan team will compete at Dubai Stadium for the first time and it’s going to be a new experience for Sri Lanka
team.
Sri Lanka Vice Captain wicket keeper batsman Sharujan Shanmuganathan is the most consistent batsman of the side having scored 62 against Nepal and his maiden International century (102) scored in Afghanistan match which was his most memorable innings at Sharjah. In addition he was named player of the match in both games with his superb match winnings knocks. The left hand number three batter Sharnmuganathan is going to be the match winner once again with his consistet performances. He was also outstanding as a wicket keeper took three excellent caches and a stumping in their last game.
Shanmuganathan the 18-year-old most successful batsman said about his role as a batter. My aim is to stay more overs to bat and build the innings and it was well executed at the last game against Afghanistan. I had to come after departure of opener Dulnith Sigera who was out first over of the match. Pulindu Perera and myserlf made 100 runs partnership which was vital to build up the innings at the last game. Shanmuganathan made slow progress in his innigs while he was able to finish the game by increasing the run rate and this was highly successful in both matches and Sri Lankan new head coach of the Under 19 team is very happy about Shanmuganathan progress. They are not underestimating any opponent while Bangladesh are also strong having unbeaten record so far this tournament and both sides have well balanced sides.
Opener Pulindu Perera, Lakvin Abeysinghe, Kavija Gamage and Vimath Dinsara also among the runs so far strengthing the batting department.
Meanwhile Bangladesh skipper and number three batter Azizul Hakem also among the runs having scored 103 against Afghanistan and 52 against Nepal while their openers Kalam Siddiki and Zawad Abrar also among the runs in this tournament.
Lanka bowlers also in good form while skipper Vihas Thewmika the off spinner and leg spinner Praveen Maneesha are leading the way and both are among the wickets. Maneehsa is Sri Lanka’s most successful bowler having 3-wicket hauls in both matches while paceman Newton Ranjithkumar and Viran Chamuditha also among the wickets in this tournament. Bangladesh bowling attack also strong with Al Fahad, Saad Islam, Iqbal Hossain and Rizan Hossain expected to make a challenge against Sri Lanka’s strong top order.
